LOCATION: Thousand Oaks, CA

Client company, a leading communications systems innovator, is seeking someone to fill the top finance role. Client is a ~$50M company, consisting of two strategic business units: Military & Space Systems (MSS), and Commercial Airborne Systems. This position serves as the chief financial officer for the company, reports to the President, sits on the senior staff, and may be hired at a Director or Vice-President level depending on qualifications and background.

The Controller provides strategic leadership and operational coordination of company financial planning & analysis, direction of budget & forecast management functions and assurance that company accounting procedures and reporting conform to generally accepted accounting principles and US government contracting regulations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plays a key role in strategic and operational planning
  • Oversees daily operations of the finance and accounting department
  • Directly supervises and mentors a financial accounting manager and payroll/finance administration manager
  • Manages the preparation of all financial reports to meet local and corporate requirements
  • Monitors and analyzes monthly operating results against budget for the whole company and the two SBUs.
  • Prepares and presents financial outlooks and financial forecasts and publishes to
  • Directs and coordinates financial planning and budget management functions, including presentations to company and technology group management
  • Recommends benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance
  • Works with other functional leaders to identify financial support tools and develop financial metrics
  • Establishes and maintains the Finance department’s organizational structure and processes to effectively accomplish business goals and objectives
  • Oversees external financial audits
  • Coordinates and implements recommendations from internal audits
  • Serves as primary government liaison relative to financial issues (i.e., DCAA, DFAR, FAR)
  • Prepares financial analysis for contract negotiations and product investment decisions
  • Oversees the product costing & proposal pricing organization

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business with strong Accounting experience; CPA/MBA preferred
  • 10+ years experience in a mid to senior level finance or accounting position, including at least 5 years an aerospace-defense manufacturing environment, and at least 5 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience
  • Mandatory experience in government contract accounting, including CAS and FAR provisions and understanding of DCAA and DCMA operations
  • Thorough knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including GAAP
  • Good working knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems (PM, Hyperion)
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
  • Working knowledge of short / long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
  • US Citizenship required
