Payroll Supervisor AHA

LOCATION: HOUSTON

SUMMARY:

Within the guidelines of departmental policy, the Payroll Supervisor provides a full range of Payroll support functions for an internal customer group. The Payroll Supervisor relies on experience and business acumen to plan and accomplish goals and meet various payroll deadlines under the general supervision of the Payroll Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervises day-to-day work of the payroll staff.
  • Processes the bi-weekly multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits and taxes consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws.
  • Processes the monthly International Service employee payroll.
  • Processes special payroll runs, e.g. bonuses, special pay and commissions.
  • Audits and analyzes data to ensure data integrity in Oracle HRIS, Oracle Time and Labor (OTL) and Kronos.
  • Assists in the testing and implementation of payroll tax and HRIS system updates.
  • Responsible for the monthly close process, including preparation and reconciliation of payroll journals.
  • Audits and reports periodic, quarterly and annual payroll tax filings to third-party vendor.
  • Researches and prepares special reports for senior management.
  • Gathers data and prepares documentation for inclusion in financial statements.
  • Provides payroll detail as needed for corporate federal and state income tax compliance.
  • Creates and modifies payroll report queries generated from Oracle using Discoverer.
  • Responsible for annual Worker’s Compensation renewal and audit.
  • Conducts payroll audits, identifies and troubleshoots issues, working collaboratively with team members to bring resolution.
  • Serves as a Kronos Administrator.
  • Develops and communicates payroll information applicable to employees and managers.
  • Works closely with and trains other payroll team members.
  • Serves as backup to Payroll Manager.
  • Ensures adherence to company policies and procedures related to payroll and HRIS, including compliance with applicable requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
  • Reviews and documents payroll processes and recommends improvements.
  • Works on special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Oracle in-house payroll processing experience highly preferred
  • Minimum five years of in-house payroll experience required
  • Minimum five years of multi-state payroll tax experience required
  • Strong HRIS experience required; Oracle highly preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and strong analytical skills required
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred. In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write business letters and emails, and present information effectively in one-on-one and small group meetings.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

The ability to analyze information to draw conclusions and solve problems in a variety of situations with a high degree of variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
