Overview:
Upstream Technology client located in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced geologist to lead advancement in the area of structural interpretation. The position reports to Manager, Worldwide Geoscience, Technology Services. Geoscience Consulting. The successful applicant will provide technical leadership and interface with business unit operating groups, other technical support personnel and vendors to provide structural analysis solutions which meet corporate organizational goals and commitments. The ability to interpret, map and model complex salt structures will be a primary focus for this position, but this position will contribute expertise to other complex structural settings where client has activity. Good communication skills, the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and a proven track record must be demonstrated. The successful candidate, based in Houston, will be expected to travel to other client sites including international locations.
Responsibilities:
1. Conducts independent 3D interpretation and mapping of complex structures, particularly with salt and subsalt-related features. Integrates subsurface data such as 2D and 3D seismic and well log data to build and validate structural models.
2. Collaborates with Sr. Management in the development of strategic goals for the organization and the setting of priorities for resource utilization. Challenges Senior Management on strategic technology related issues.
3. Interacts with seismic processors in providing interpretation for depth imaging projects.
4. Utilizes 3D interpretation and visualization technology to aid in the formulation of interpretations. Integrates subsurface data such as 2D and 3D seismic and well log data to build and validate structural models.
5. Participates in worldwide exploration and production peer review groups and mentors junior/less experienced staff.
6. Provides technical oversight to operating groups involved in conducting structural interpretation at the regional and prospect scales. Integrates results with sedimentologists, basin modelers, and other team members.
7. Coordinates and conducts training on structural interpretation within client. Training will be conducted via one-on-one mentoring relationships as well as in classroom sessions with groups of geoscientists.
8. Maintains contacts within academia and outside third-party consultancies. Takes a primary role in the supervision of consultants involved with specialty structural interpretation projects.
9. Participates as champion in company-involved Joint Industry Projects involving complex structural interpretation and modeling.
10. Promotes client's technical profile within industry by participating in industry workshops and conferences. Participation includes publishing work and technical developments and encouraging other client Geoscientists in the publishing of work within industry and academic journals.
Qualifications:
Degree: PhD
Major: Geologic sciences
Computer Proficiencies: Required software proficiencies include UNIX, Landmark Interpretation suite, 3D Visualization tools, and structural restoration software.
Work Experience: 10 yrs industry or academic faculty experience including subsurface and field structural interpretation and modeling in compressional, extensional, transpressional, and salt-involved settings is required.
